New EBSCO databases for staff to trial

All Sutherland Libraries staff have an opportunity to trial some new EBSCO databases on offer.
Please find some time to try at least one database.
The more feedback we get from staff the better informed will be our decisions regarding purchase (or not) of these products, so tell us what you think!

Great Reading Ideas from the RUSA Awards 2010

Links to some good reading lists can be found on a recent post on The Reference and User Services Association's blog. RUSA is part of the American Library Association and every year they announce a swag of awards.
Have a look at Notable Books List identifying the 25 most important fiction, non-fiction and poetry titles for adults.
I particularly like The Reading List recognizing outstanding genre fiction. It includes not only the winner of a genre, but a short list and read-alikes as well (Michael Robotham is in there!)
Despite its American focus, there are even a few ideas in the Outstanding Reference Sources list.

Following on from the very popular 1001 Books you must read before you die, this book covers a very long list of popular children's titles you apparently 'must read before you grow up' (if that's the case then I won't be growing up anytime soon).

Mask Making at the Library

Wow did we have fun at the very successful Make a Mask Workshop at Sutherland Library on Thursday 7th January !! As the photos show, imaginations ran wild and so did the glitter! A packed room of enthusiastic children aged between 7 to 12 years came along and decorated their own wild mask.

If you missed out, Engadine Library has the same workshop on Wednesday 20th January 10.00am - 11.30am. Bookings are essential so phone 9548 6003 to book a spot!
