Its December already, with less than 12 days until Christmas! Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope you all enjoy your Christmas break, have a chance to relax and read, and come back to work refreshed and ready to take on the National Year of Reading, 2012!

The Summer Reading Club started on Monday, 12th December. Just a reminder to branches to send the Adult Summer Reading Club Entry forms to Sutherland each Friday. The weekly draw will take place each Monday afternoon.

Due to high demand from branches there are more adult SRC entry forms being printed and these will be sent out asap. Thanks so much for your support!

Check out the Summer Reading Club display at Sutherland on the foyer wall. Especially love the recycled book art decorations- Thanks to Tara and the sortroom team for creating these.

The first theme to kick off the National Year of Reading is Amazing Reads. The Outreach Team has come up with the idea of "Amazing Mondays". Each Monday, there will be a palm reader conducting 15 minute readings for interested parties. There are no bookings, just first in, first served. While they wait, customers can find their next amazing read at the Information desk. A staff member will be on hand to help customers find books to read using Whichbook and two great library resources- NoveList and Who Else Writes Like? databases. There will also be lists of top ten reads as selected by individual Outreach team members posted on Sutherland Library News every Monday morning of January to provide readers with some suggestions for their next amazing read.

25th December - Christmas. I'm sure you all have lovely displays of Christmas themed books, tinsel and decorations adorning your libraries already.
January - Amazing books. What have you read that was amazing? Or what books would you re-read, or did you find you just couldn't put down? Find them and them up as a display.

4th January is Trivia day in the U.S.A.

8th January is Elvis Presley's Birthday. Create a display of books about the king! (He would have been 77 this year).

13th January is the first Friday the 13th for 2012. The others being in April and July this year.

18th January is Winnie the pooh day. (His creator, A.A. Milne was born this day).

19th January Another birthday. Edgar Alan Poe was born 203 years ago today. You can still borrow his books from the library. A display could be his and other books from the 1001 books collection, or his and other authors tales of mystery and macabre.

22-29 January is Healthy weight week.

23rd January is Chinese New Year. Its the year of the Dragon.
26th January is Australia Day. Create a display of Australian authors, or books set in Australia.

1st January: Happy New Year! I hope you've all made a New Years resolution to read more!

9th -18th January: For the kids: During the January school holiday kids can come along to Amazing tales being held at each of the library branches.

19th January: Burt Sigworth, author of "Fly like an Emu", the unbelievable but true story of a group of guys who selected themselves as the first-ever Australian Dodgeball team will be appearing at Engadine library for an author talk/book signing event. Bookings online.
23rd January: Sandy Brocking author of "Think smart and lose weight", will be holding an author talk at Sutherland Library 6.30pm-7.30pm.

25th January. Sandy Brocking will be holding an author talk for seniors at Miranda Library, 10.30am-11.30am.

Just a reminder of who is being interviewed with posts on Facebook in January, expect an email soon. If you are taking annual leave, could you please either send me your post early or tell me so I can swap your interview date, because I'm sure you wouldn't like to miss out!
