What's Happening

NYR Display Materials
To coincide with the official launch of the National Year of Reading, each library branch will be receiving two packs of materials to use around their libraries to promote the National Year of Reading. These are a general pack of NYR materials including bookmarks, posters and stickers, and a "Our Story" pack. These can be used to create displays and generally promote the National Year of Reading at the library.

Our Story winners
The Our Story winners were announced on 14th February, Library Lovers Day. The NSW winner was "The idea of home" by John Hughes. You can find all the winners here.

March Theme is "Think"
This is the month to think about your reading, what you are reading, why you are reading it ??????
Caringbah Library is celebrating this theme by hosting a Literary Trivia night.

LITL events
"LITL" Literature in the Library events are being held throughout the National Year of Reading to celebrate icon Literary figures, both authors and characters. The first of these will be held on 17th February (Banjo Paterson's birthday). Cliff Crane will be presenting a talk ''The Banjo is not dead" and will be accompanied by banjo player Ron James playing "Along the road to Gundaghai". This event is booked out. The March LITL event is at Cronulla, with a talk about Robin Hood by Dave Overett.

Adult Storytime
When was the last time someone read a story to you? Thanks to Di Ollerenshaw for starting this great new program which will be held at Sutherland Library the first Wednesday of the month between 1.00pm-2.00pm. It is starting on 7th March, which is "Read out loud Day"

Display Ideas
26th February: 84th Academy Awards - books to movies display.
7th March: Read out loud day. Good time to promote audio books and DAB books.
8th March: International Womens day. This years theme is "connecting girls, inspiring futures".
12-18th March: Brain awareness week- very appropriate for the theme this month, don't you think?
17th March: St Patricks Day Irish authors, books set in Ireland, travel to Ireland etc.

Whats on
A Literature in the Library (LITL) Event – Robin Hood Talk
Local researcher and collector David Overett will be talking about the life and times of Robin Hood.
Where: Cronulla Library
When: Tuesday, March 13th 6.30-7.30pm
This is a free event, bookings are essential.

Author Talk - Mark Dapin
This talk is booking out quickly. Author of Spirit House, Strange Country and King of the Cross, Mark Dapin has been editor in chief of ACP's men's magazines, and a hugely popular columnist for Fairfax's Good Weekend. Mark will be speaking at Sutherland Library about his books and writing during Senior’s Week. Copies of Mark’s books will be available for sale and signing on the night .

This is a free event, bookings are essential.

Seniors Adult Storytime (NO BOOKINGS NECESSARY)
A special Adult Storytime for Seniors celebrating 'World Storytelling day' No bookings needed, come along for a relaxing hour in the library.
Refreshments will be provided.
Where: Sutherland Library
When: Wednesday, March 21st (World Storytelling Day) 1pm
This is a free event, no bookings are necessary.

Seniors Movie Night
Another wonderful Senior’s Week free event, all are welcome to attend this viewing of the iconic and well loved Aussie movie The Man From Snowy River, starring Sigrid Thornton.
Snack and drinks will be served on the night.

When: Thursday, March 22nd 6.00pm-8.30pm
This is a free event, bookings are essential.

eBook Readers Reviewed

The February 2012 issue of Choice magazine contains a review of eBook readers. They have also compared the readers to 3 tablets. If you are getting enquiries about eBook readers you might find it useful to refer patrons to this review.
