What's Happening

Canberra's longest bookmark
Would you like to be part of creating Canberra's longest bookmark? Can you knit? If you answered yes to both these questions, ACT Library Service would like to invite you and anyone else you may know (such as our lovely knitting group people) to make some knitted book marks, which will be sewn together to create Canberra's longest book mark. Certainly apt for the National Year of Reading! If you are interested, the very simple pattern is available to create a knitted book mark and this can be sent to you by Monique. You can also send the completed bookmarks to Monique.  The promotion runs until the end of the year, so there's still time to get knitting! Details of this promotion have been sent to branches with Knitting groups - Miranda, Engadine and Cronulla.

Our Story book review Competition.
The National Year of Reading team is running a competition for the best book review of any of the eight "Our Story" National Year of Reading winning books collection. There are some great book packs and an e-reader to be won. Copies of the poster to promote this competition on behalf of NYR will be in the next delivery (27/04/2012).

 May-Escape Theme
The May theme for the National Year of reading is Escape. Cronulla will be  holding a "Favourite travel destination" competition, running throughout May to celebrate this theme.
 A large display  of travel guide kits and travel guides, including the Lonely Planet  guides will be created. Posters, flyers and entry forms will also be used to promote the competition.

Tara has created a fabulous display involving an ocean of books and a desert island to promote the Escape theme- you can check this out on the Sutherland Library  foyer from  the beginning of May.

LITL Events
"The Charles Dickens - Life and works talk with Susannah Fullerton" went really well, with 55 people  of 63 bookings attending a fascinating talk about Dickens, in this, the bicentenary year of his birth. If you are asked by customers for an audiobook version of something by Dickens, this may be courtesy of  Susannah Fullerton! Thanks to all staff for promoting, booking and generally helping to make this event a success.  The next LITL event is featuring Sherlock Holmes presented by David Lewis, a member of the "Sydney Passengers". We have 20 bookings so far!

Yes, its nearly that time of year, where all the wonderful and talented staff of the Sutherland Library Service can exhibit their reading and writing skills by writing a book review, or two. Have you been reading something you want to tell the world (or at least the shire) about? Here's your chance.  Due to the sad demise of 'Checkmeout'  this year we will be posting book reviews on the Library blog. A blogeverydayofJune daily book reviews has been set up so you can select the days you would like to post a review about something you have read.  You can send the review to Monique or Martin for posting,  save your post as a draft, even schedule it for your chosen day in blogger. There are thirty days of posts to write, so the more people who join in the better! Get in quickly to get your favourite days. You can start sending your book reviews now, today even...
