ANZAC Day

As ANZAC Day approaches I am reminded of a visit that I made to Gallipoli last year. To see the difficult scrubby terrain, the small trenches located less than a metre apart, the graves of very young men some of whom died on the same day that they landed and a cemetery of a whole Turkish battalion killed in one offensive are sights that reinforce opposing emotions about war but ultimately say much about bravery and endurance on both sides.

The Turkish people are also drawn to Gallipoli and you can see that they feel similar emotions to the Australian and New Zealand people about this campaign.

In August 2009 a team of ABC Innovation staff won the inaugural Australian Film Institute Award for Screen Content Innovation for Gallipoli: The First Day.
