Uncle Bobby's wedding
If you’d like to read a well written and reasoned response to a patron’s objection to a library book, have a look at this letter from Jamie Larue who works in the Douglas County Libraries in Colorado, USA. One of their users objected to a child’s picture book about a gay marriage, ‘Uncle Bobby’s wedding’, and he’s posted his response to the borrower on his blog.He makes some terrific arguments for freedom to read, but does it in such a way that you’ll want to memorise some of his points. His letter has also generated an enormous amount of feedback – most of it positive from the brief glance I gave it.
