Jasper Fforde and Thursday Next
I've just enjoyed another Jasper Fforde book starring Thursday Next. The woman who died a lot. These books are just weird entertainment. If you haven't read any, try the first one, The Eyre Affair. Interlibrary loans may be able to find a copy. There is a lot of literature and libraries and librarians in these tomes of time travel, spies, goodies and baddies.
eg "A lean woman with a face pinched by hard workouts walked forward to greet me. She was in her mid-fifties, did not look well disposed to joy in any form, and was wearing the standard SLS combat fatigues, replete with the distinctive camouflage pattern of book spines for blending into library spaces. When I was at SpecOps she was at the Search/Destroy division of SO-5, and you didn't get to join them until you'd killed eight people with a gun, four with a blunt instrument or two with your hands - it was a sliding-scale sort of thin. Wexler's appointment to the SLS was enough to precipitate a 32 per cent drop in late returns." Not that any of us fit such characterisations, especially today when an outbreak of florals have been the response to Monique's request to celebrate Spring.
And next time the legals go out remember this "Do I have to talk to insane people?"
" You're a librarian now. I'm afraid it's mandatory."
