This book is a really useful resource for people who are in the situation of having a family member or friend in prison and don’t know what to do about certain issues or where they can gain information relating to these issues. The book is filled with advice and contact details of various organisations and support groups that may be able to provide further advice, assistance and information. Topics covered include going to prison, keeping in contact, children with a parent in prison, housing and money issues, health issues and coming home. I also think it could be really useful for anyone who is conducting any sort of research or doing an assignment on issues relating to this matter (eg. effect of prison on family life, health issues suffered as a result of prison etc.). The real life stories throughout the book add to effectively providing an insight into the effects of having a family member/friend go to prison, as it conveys the reality of the situation. This feature could also be really helpful in conveying to people in this situation that they are not the only ones to go through this experience and may offer them some helpful insights. So for anyone who is dealing with an information request on prison and the families/friends of prisons this is definitely one to keep in mind.
